System concept and design

Brake Disk Tests

Car manufacturers do random tests of break disk at the car assembly line. So far the disks were just inspected after the test.

To improve the whole process, for archiving purpose and to have recorded images of braking disks AOS developed a high speed streaming system based on PROMON to record the tests.

The recordings taken by the high speed streaming cameras are in sync with the rotating disk taking 5 images per rotation. The cameras feature remote controlled lenses allowing adjusting everything from a central control room.

Mass Rapid Transit Track Inspection

Mass Rapid Transit operators have to balance the costs for inspection and maintenance with the reliability and performance of their system.

Inspecting the extensive track systems for defects and imperfections to determin repair- and maintenance jobs is a must, but inspection costs have to be kept on a minimum. Archiving the inspection data for later reference is also a must.

AOS developed an automatic inspections system, based on the latest vision technology, which answers all requirements in a practical way.

S-CHASE, Chase Plane Camera

Following a flying airplane with a camera can be a challenge, especially if its flying at a high speed.

Together with the customer, AOS designed a handheld camera, the S-CHASE, with a pistol grip and a special viewfinder, makes it easy to track the airplane.

Bio-Mimetic

University Research

Bio-mimetic (often called “bio-mechanics”, “bio-technologies” or “bionics”) is the research of nature in order to duplicate specific parts or a system and  transferring into man-made technical products. A successful and often cited example are the gecko’s feet which allow this little reptile to climb on walls and even ceilings. Not only are the brush-like fingertips a key element for this ability, the unique walking pattern is a prerequisite too.

High speed cameras help the researchers to see and understand every single phase of a gekko’s walking pattern. The visual data are analysed with a purpose-written software to transfer the visual data into a mathematic formula, which allows to duplicate the principle into mechanical “walking robots”.

The invisible IR-light emitted by an AOS StroboLED allowed the gecko to behave naturally. Secondly, the StroboLED did not create excessive heat due to its short IR-light burst, another essential benefit when monitoring small creatures.

ABB Minerals

The system was developed to remotely check the reason for a shutdown of the rock mill caused by the spectral analyser. The system was delivered as a key turn solution with two PROMON cameras, recording system with customized AOS Imaging Studio Software. The cameras where placed in a special enclosure, making sure that debris and dust will not affect the performance of the system. For a immediately access to the data, a fibre link was installed between the recording system and the control room.
