The AOS M-VIT high-speed camera has successfully demonstrated its performance in one of the most demanding environments imaginable - aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
As part of the ESA-funded DropCoal (Droplet Coalescence) experiment, the AOS M-VIT was integrated into an advanced experimental container to record the formation and collision of liquid droplets under microgravity conditions. The project provides valuable insights into fluid dynamics in space and supports future developments for both terrestrial industries and long-duration space missions, where understanding liquid behavior in weightlessness is essential.
The experimental container was designed, manufactured, and integrated by RISE, the project's prime contractor. Together with AOS Technologies, the engineering teams implemented the camera-specific firmware, optimized the system for the experiment, and carried out extensive functional testing prior to launch and installation on the ISS. The AOS M-VIT became a key component for monitoring and controlling droplet formation and capturing every event with exceptional temporal resolution.
The spectacular high-speed sequences recorded during the mission will serve as the foundation for future scientific research and engineering developments. They provide researchers with precise data that would be impossible to observe with conventional imaging systems.
